Our Bureau Kakinada, Aug. 30 Reliance Industries, constructing an onshore gas terminal at Gadimoga village in the Tallarevu mandal of East Godavari district, has conceded to some of the demands voiced by Mr G.V. Harshakumar, Member of the Lok Sabha from Amalapuram constituency. The member of the Lok Sabha resorted to a 30-hour sit-in at the site from Tuesday and gave it up only on Wednesday evening after negotiations with the representatives of the company. His contention was that the fishermen at Gadimoga main village and seven surrounding hamlets were losing heavily and “it is the corporate social responsibility of the company to adopt the village and compensate the affected fishermen and provide them with alternative livelihood opportunities.” In response to the demands of the MP, the company representatives agreed to provide Rs 33 lakh to the fishermen dependent on a nearby creek, known locally as the Mandara Kaluva, and to deposit Rs 1 crore in order to provide houses to 500 people within the panchayat limits under the Indiramma scheme. The demand for the adoption of the entire village would be sympathetically considered, they said.
