Cabinet okays additional DA for Central Govt staff

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the release of additional installment of dearness allowance and dearness relief for Central Government employees and pensioners respectively, which became due from July 1.

The rate of dearness allowance from July 1 will be 41 per cent for all Central Government employees, an increase of 6 per cent over the existing 35 per cent. The rate of dearness relief from July 1 would accordingly be 41 per cent for all pensioners/family pensioners of Central Government.

The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both dearness allowance and dearness relief would be Rs 3,284.94 crore in a full year and Rs 2,189.96 crore in the financial year 2007-08, the Information & Broadcasting Minister, Mr Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, told reporters after a Cabinet meeting.

Insurance coverage

The Union Cabinet also approved the launch of Aam admi bima yojana from October 2, 2007. This scheme would provide life, partial and permanent disability coverage to the head of the family or an earning member of the family of rural landless households in the States and also educational assistance to their children studying from 9th to 12th standard as an extended benefit.
