Education States - Andhra Pradesh ‘Make best use of mind energy’
Our Bureau Vijayawada, Aug. 31 Noted psychiatrist Mr R.K. Ayodhya has said that “not utilising your mind energy to the optimum is like not utilising crores of rupees stashed away in a bank account. It is of no use if you possess something but do not make the best use of it.” Delivering a lecture to the students of Nimra College of Business Administration at Ibrahimpatnam on the theme ‘adolescence and psyche’, organised by the Business Line Club, Dr Ayodhya drew several anecdotes from the lives of great persons and from his own experience. He pointed out that most students possess more or less the same intelligence quotient and talent but only a few succeed and reach greater heights in life, as they make the best use of their mind energy. “There was a student in a class who always sat on the back benches and dozed off when the teacher taught a lesson. The teacher did not even know the name of this student, as he naturally remembered the names of only bright and toppers in the class. On a particular day, the teacher gave a problem in mathematics and threw a challenge at the students to solve it ahead of others. For some reason, this student succeeded in solving it ahead of even the brightest of the students. “The teacher was surprised to see a dullard from the back benches leaving others way behind. The teacher found out his name for the first time. The pat that the student got on his back from the teacher that day changed his life forever, and helped him become a successful psychiatrist. So I’m here before you talking to you all,” said Dr Ayodhya. The psychiatrist wanted the students to set higher goals for themselves and achieve them methodically. He did not agree that having or not having facilities like education in an air-conditioned school and access to information via the Internet and the like could make any difference to students becoming successful. Complaining about not having such comforts in childhood would only be a lame excuse. For, the likes of Abraham Lincoln and Marie Curie achieved what they aspired even in the face of inadequacies imposed by their economic conditions. He made it clear to the students that various phobias and paranoia were definitely curable with the help of several techniques in psychiatry. The Principal of the College, Mr Abdul Baji, faculty and students were present.
