Anil Products to expand capacity

Virendra Pandit

Ahmedabad, Sept. 1 The Ahmedabad-based leading starch-maker Anil Products Ltd will invest Rs 60 crore to increase its daily production capacity from 450 tonnes to 750 tonnes by July 2008.

The company, listed on the Ahmedabad Stock Exchange, is also set to introduce new products in starch categories such as cross-link, double-derivativised, cationic, amphotenic and cold-water soluble starches to cater to the emerging needs of the country’s booming economy, Mr Amol Sheth, Managing Director, told Business Line here.

The new products would cater to the needs of the ready-to-eat food industry booming with the retail revolution, besides the exponential growth being witnessed in textile, paper and pharmaceutical sectors, he said. One-fifth of the company’s starch is consumed by textile sector alone. With the textile sector adopting new technologies such as shuttle-less looms, the demand for modified starch, which improves weaving efficiencies by 10 per cent, is set to grow. Even the starch industry, which was growing at a low rate of 3-4 per cent just three years back, is now booming at nine to 10 per cent annually.

The company, whose turnover was Rs 210 crore in 2006-07, is targeting a growth of 25 per cent this year.
