The Kerala-based Eastern Group and the UAE-based Jaleel Traders LLC have announced a joint-venture to set up a spices and grains processing facility in the UAE.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, Mr M.E. Meeran, Chairman, Eastern Group and Mr Sameer K. Mohamed, Managing Director, Jaleel Traders LLC, said that the new plant in the UAE will import grains and spices from across the world and would process and re-package these products for sale in the West Asian region. The products would be sold under the Eastern brand, Mr Meeran added.

The total investment in the project would be approximately Rs 30 crore and would be shared equally by the two companies, he said.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Group, which has interests in areas such as curry powder, spices, packaged drinking water and apparel, is looking at improving its presence in the domestic market.
