Announcements Marketing - IPR Sensor for vortex flow meter wins US patent
Our Bureau Pune, Sept. 3 A sensor for use in flow meters developed by Pune-based entrepreneur, Mr Avinash Vaidya, has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent and Trade Marks office as a ‘device for measuring frequency and amplitude of varying force signals’. The product already has an Indian patent. Mr Vaidya, who is a the chief promoter of Inconel, a manufacturer of vortex flow meters in India, says that those manufactured using this sensor device score over the orifice type and other flow meters as they help save electric power consumption of pumps and compressors up to three times. These flow meters are utilised to measure the flow of air, gas, water and other fluids, and find application in city water supplies, boiler feed water, water treatment plants, biogas and natural gas plants, gas engines, furnaces and for monitoring plant-wise consumption of compressed air. In flow meters, the sensor device increases accuracy, suppresses noise and facilitates a large signal to noise ratio. It also has applications in CNC Machining, robotics and machines, where reliable monitoring of parameters and signals is required, Mr Vaidya says. According to a study in 2005 by Dr Yoder, President, Flow Research, USA, the world market for vortex flow meters is $176 million and the revenue from sales are projected to touch $240 million by 2010.
