Bakery machines firm sets up plant in Bangalore

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Sept. 3 The UCA Group, an NRI-owned engineering components and bakery machines company, has set up a plant in Jigani to produce critical components and machinery for Stewart Systems and Spooner Vicars based in the US and UK respectively.

UCA group had acquired Spooner for $14 million in April while Stewart had come under the banner of UCA in 2003 after its transfer of ownership. The new unit will be called Stewart Systems after the merger of the two units.

Stewart Systems has commissioned its components unit at a cost of Rs 45 crore. Though India was not a market for the Stewart Spooner equipment, with its bakery and snack food industry still fragmented, UCA Group was eyeing the market for its future growth.

Leading companies like Britannia, Parle, and Surya Foods have shown interest in its products, said Mr Nand Kumar, Chairman, UCA.

UCA Group also manufactures engineering components for the automobile industry through its plants near Chennai and Bangalore and is a vendor to Hyundai Motors India.
