Smooth sailing

A ship cruising along the Marine Drive backwaters in Kochi, which is considered the gateway to Kerala. There was steady rise in tourist inflow all through 2004-2005 and 2005-06. About two-thirds of foreign tourists arrive in Kerala by road and rail from other States. Since 1993, there has been a significant increase in the number of foreign tourists arriving in ships. According to statistics provided by the Department of Tourism, Kochi garnered 37.6 per cent of tourists while Thiruvananthapuram had 34 per cent in 2006.
