TCS inks deal with Roche for capacity building initiative

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Sept. 4 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into a multi-year partnership to support Swiss drug major Roche Holding’s global programme to build a robust drug pipeline. However, financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. Roche has christened this global programme as Roche’s Global Capacity Building Initiative (GCBI).

The deal validates TCS’ strategy of providing services that support the processes of drug development, according to Mr J. Rajagopal, TCS Executive Vice-President and Global Head - Life Sciences & Healthcare. “It is a KPO deal in which TCS will provide services to Roche in areas including clinical data management, clinical programming, biostatistics and drug safety support,” Mr Rajagopal told Business Line.

Roche is one of the leading research-focused healthcare groups in the fields of pharmaceuticals and diagnostics

GCBI programme

Located in Mumbai, the GCBI programme consists of a team of pharmacologists, physicians, biostatisticians, pharmacists and informatics specialists.

The partnership with TCS will help Roche to leverage the extensive talent pool in India, gain ongoing cost and process improvements, said a news release. The Life Sciences and Healthcare Practice at TCS has over 3,200 medical and non medical professionals. Revenues from this business contribute about five per cent to TCS’s overall revenues.

Reacting to the development, the TCS scrip was up by 0.65 per cent to close at Rs 1,065.7 on the BSE today.
