Virendra Pandit

Ahmedabad, Sept 5 The Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, today left for China along with a 21-member delegation to participate in the three-day meet of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to be held from tomorrow.

The State Government has hired Apco Worldwide, a Washington-based firm, for public relations and co-ordination at the conference to be held at Dalian from September 6-8, official reports said.

Mr Modi is leading the first-ever business delegation from Gujarat to the WEF.

The 17-member corporate delegation includes business leaders such as Mr Shashi Ruia of the Essar Group, Mr Nikhil Meswani of Reliance Industries, Mr B.K. Goenka of Welspun and Mr Hiren Patel of Nirma and four bureaucrats.

The delegation will interact with global corporate giants and explore partnership opportunities for new projects and investments in Gujarat.

It plans to showcase the growth potential and opportunities available in the State. Besides, it will present Gujarat’s case as the leading economy of the region.

About 1,700 participants from over 80 countries are expected to take part in the ‘Summer Davos’ at Dalian, one of the most developed industrial areas in China.
