Hutch plans to invest Rs 1,000 cr in Gujarat

Crosses 50-lakh subscribers mark

Ahmedabad, Sept. 5 Hutch, which has crossed the 50-lakh-subscribers mark in Gujarat circle, is investing nearly Rs 1,000 crore in the State in the current financial year as part of its expansion plans, according a company official.

In December 2006, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Government to invest Rs 2,500 crore until 2011.

This was expected to generate 83,000 employment opportunities.

Investment

Hutch, which invested Rs 330 crore last year, is now investing more than three times this amount in the current fiscal.

It is also increasing number of seats at its call centres up to 5,000, Mr Sunil Sood, Director (Operations), told a press conference here.

The cellular service provider in Gujarat has crossed the 50-lakh subscribers base, he said.

Only Airtel has achieved this mark in Karnataka so far.

Hutch has maintained a market share of over 48 per cent month-on-month this year to achieve the mark.

Subscribers

It now leads with more than two-and-a-half times the number of subscribers against as compared to its nearest competitor in the region, Idea.
