Higher volume on offer at Coonoor tea auctions

Coonoor, Sept. 5 The volume offered for Sale No: 36 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions to be held here on Thursday and Friday has risen by 44,000 kg over last week’s offer due to increased arrivals and listing of unsold teas from the previous auctions.

Catalogues of all the brokers add up to a volume of 10.02 lakh kg. This is as much as 1.3 lakh kg more than the volume offered for sale this time last year.

Of the 10.02 lakh kg, as much as 6.87 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 3.15 lakh kg, to dust grades. Again, as much as 9.35 lakh kg belong to the CTC variety and only 0.67 lakh kg to the orthodox variety.

Orthodox proportion

The proportion of orthodox is low in respect of both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf catalogues, orthodox variety adds up to only 0.29 lakh kg even as the CTC totals 6.58 lakh kg. In the dust catalogues, orthodox sums up to 0.38 lakh kg, while the CTC volume is 2.77 lakh kg.
