TVS, Bajaj honchos meet at SIAM sidelines

No fondness for litigation: Rajiv Bajaj

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Sept. 5 It may be a corporate battle between Bajaj Auto Ltd and TVS Motor Company.

But at the SIAM annual convention meet here, it was a bonhomie that was reflected between Mr Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto, and Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director of TVS Motors, as both of them were believed to have had a meeting on the sidelines of the convention. The actual development and the outcome of the meeting were, however, not known.

Earlier in the day, Mr Srinivasan had said that TVS would continue to use the technology under contention in its future models despite Bajaj Auto’s claims over infringement of its patent by TVS.

“All I can say is we are confident of what we are doing,” said, Mr Srinivasan, adding that the company was taking advice over the legal proceedings against Bajaj Auto.

TVS is all set to launch its Flame model as scheduled and there is no doubt on its entry in the market on the account of claims made by Bajaj, a company official said.

Commenting on whether Bajaj Auto was all prepared to drag TVS Motors to the court, Mr Rajiv Bajaj said that it was waiting for the former to launch its vehicle and would then decide on the course of action.

He, however, added: “we have no overwhelming desire or fondness to go to the court.”
