Public Sector Banks Money & Banking - Human Resources Andhra Bank to hire in a big way
G. Naga Sridhar Hyderabad, Sept. 6 Andhra Bank will be hiring about 2,000 personnel in different categories over the next three years to strike a balance between retirements and new business needs. “We have just completed an assessment on our manpower needs. We will be hiring 1,500-2,000 personnel to address our manpower needs,” Mr Kalyan Mukherjee, Executive Director, told Business Line. “The human resource needs of banks are now varied. In line with the business growth, we will be hiring clerks, probationary officers, market/finance executives, legal officers, rural development/agricultural officers, IT professionals and analysts,” Mr Mukherjee said. The bank, which has indicated its likely foray into insurance, would also be needing domain experts in insurance. The exact vacancies under different categories are being ascertained. “Unlike in the 90s, there are no restrictions on the scale of recruitment. It will be hand in hand with business growth. As of now, business per employee is at 5.20 per cent and we will improve/maintain it.” While a traditional written test would be conducted for clerical and probationary officers, Andhra Bank is adopting campus recruitment for other categories of employees. It had earlier conducted campus recruitment in major cities/towns within and outside Andhra Pradesh and succeeded in getting some good hands. “We are not looking at big institutes like IITs and IIMs for campus recruitment. We are focusing on mid-sized institutes to bring in rural people, as we believe in employment inclusion,” Mr Mukherjee said. In contrast to some banks that have two separate lines of staff – generalists and specialists, Andhra Bank has a single line of employees.
