Cabinet nod for AP coal project

New Delhi, Sept. 7 The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for sanctioning of Jallaram Shaft project of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd for a net capital requirement of Rs 467.78 crore and total outlay of Rs 512.87 crore.
Upon completion of the project, 2.285 million tonnes per annum of coal would be produced and will cater to the demand of NTPC Ramagundam and other cement units.
At present, SCCL has 45 underground and 12 opencast operating mines. The company produced 37.71 million tonnes of coal in the year 2006-07.
The CCEA also gave its approval for continuation of the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) in its present form, beyond March 31, 2007 till March 31, 2008. CCEA also gave its approval for an expenditure of Rs 445 crore towards REGP during the year. The continuation of the REGP would result in generation of 7.04 lakh additional employment opportunities in the rural areas during the year.
The Union Cabinet gave its approval for introduction of the revised `Unorganised Sector Workers' Social Security Bill, 2007 in Parliament. The proposal would facilitate formulation of social security schemes for the unorganised sector workers
