Alliances & Joint Ventures Trivitron, Japanese co forge jt venture
Our Bureau New Delhi, Sept. 8 Trivitron group of companies, a medical technology company, and Aloka Company Ltd, a Japanese company dealing in supply of medical equipment, have announced a joint venture to manufacture cost-effective and high technology ultrasound equipment in India. The joint venture will embark on an initial investment of Rs 50 crore by both the companies. The investment would be used for acquiring necessary equipment and infrastructure for setting up the manufacturing unit. Functioning details
“In the first phase, the companies will manufacture portable black and white ultrasound scanners, floor model high resolution black and white ultrasound scanners and whole body colour dopplers,” a release issued on Friday said. “India has the potential to set itself as a manufacturing hub in the medical equipment segment and meet the rising global demand. Aloka is looking forward to set up its base for developing embedded and application software for ultrasound systems in India,” Mr Yoshihiro Yoshikawa, President, Aloka Co Ltd, said in the release. The joint venture expects to capture 20 per cent market share in the domestic ultrasound market within two years. Trivitron would extend its current distribution network for sales application and engineering support for the new products. The products manufactured will also be exported. Potential hub
“India currently meets over 90 per cent of its medical equipment requirements through imports and there has been no large-scale initiative in the medical technology industry to create a world class manufacturing facility till now. But the recent growth areas such as electronics manufacturing, biotechnology manufacturing, mechanical components manufacturing, pharma manufacturing make India a potential hub for indigenous medical technology,” Dr GSK Velu, Managing Director, Trivitron group of companies, said in the release. As part of the deal, Aloka would also bring in its technology for manufacturing ultrasound systems, ultrasound probes and related ultrasound accessories.
