Information Technology EDI-based system in Kandla
Kandla port has introduced EDI-based port community system to “provide quality infrastructure and services to port users,” according to port sources. The system, according to the port chairman, has been developed by the Union Government as part of the various measures initiated to boost the productivity of the ports. At Kandla, as the chairman points out, the system will try to achieve a hazard free port operation. The port users have been advised to go “live” by participating in the newly-introduced system, under which it should be possible to undertake various online operations such as submission of vessel profile and allotment of berths. The successful operation of the system also presupposes active participation of the cross-section of port users in the system, in their own interests. Precisely for the same reason, the port organised an awareness programme for the users.
