Mayur Shah Goa, Sept. 9 Bajaj Auto on Sunday unveiled the XCD 125 motorcycle with the DTS-Si engine. The new vehicle is available across all Bajaj authorised dealers at Rs 41,000 (ex-showroom), Pune. The company intends selling 20,000 units in the first month (September), 50,000 units in October and 70,000 units in November, said Mr Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto. The XCD 125 is being manufactured at Bajaj’s Waluj factory in Aurangabad. The company has primarily introduced this bike to cater to the demographic needs of the 100cc customer i.e. mileage, furthermore it also has the features of 150cc motorcycles besides the performance of 125cc motorcycles. It has also led to the discontinuation of the ‘Bajaj Discover 110cc and the 125cc; only the Discover 135cc is currently available in the retail market. The motorcycle will cater to various segments in the future without any cannibalisation with the ‘Bajaj Pulsar’ platform. It was developed in order to cater to the growing 125cc +150cc segment that has had a growth of 16 per cent, while the 100 cc segment had a dip of 20 percent this quarter. According to Mr Amit Nandi, GM-marketing, Bajaj Auto, the company would be spending about Rs 11 crore for media promotion of the new vehicle. Legal controversy
Meanwhile, in response to the current controversy between Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company, Mr Bajaj said the company’s legal team was currently examining the issue; it will undertake tests of the new TVS Flame vehicle in order to find out whether there was any similarity in the engine architecture. If so, then the company would take further action based on the tests.
