Bank unions defer strike

K.R. Srivats

New Delhi, Sept. 10 Bank employees have decided to defer the nation-wide strike called for Wednesday following the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) assurance to commence negotiations on the unions’ demands within a fortnight.

The IBA’s move to agree to commence negotiations with the unions came at a meeting chaired by the Chief Labour Commissioner, Mr S.K. Mukhopadhyay, here today.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the nine unions forming part of the United Forum of Bank Unions, besides a senior official from the Department of Financial Services in the Finance Ministry.
