Cisco unveils unified solution

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, Sept. 10 Cisco has come up with unified communications solutions for IT and BPO companies, which enable improved productivity and enhanced security.

For Cisco, IT and BPO accounts for 30 per cent of revenues.

Now, the company plans to help partners, including system integrators (SIs), go global with these solutions.

Internet protocol (IP)-based networks help bring about convergence of voice, video and data for enterprises.

The Cisco suite of products now cover even security at the network level, said Mr Ajay Goel, Senior Vice-President (IT Services), Cisco India and SAARC.

Company’s strategy

Mr Goel told Business Line that the Cisco strategy for IT and BPO companies is based on creating new markets, delivering new solutions and accelerating existing programmes.

Given the open architecture, these solutions fit into the existing networks, enhancing collaboration.

India is the only country where Cisco has a separate IT Services vertical. It helps enterprises and SIs in their efforts to upgrade networks for unified collaboration.

Many Indian services companies work for global corporations for whom compliance-related issues are critical.

These call for developing networks with IP capability for voice, video and data traffic, he said.

RUPEE RISE

“The strengthening rupee as against dollar has created a lot of pressure on technology companies. They are now faced with the challenge of improving productivity to offset the impact of a stronger rupee. Indian IT services and BPO companies could gain significantly by deploying unified IP networks,” Mr Goel said.

Lately, there have been changes in the way enterprises look at security, he added.

“This is because the nature of security breaches has changed – from simple network attacks to efforts to disrupt applications.”

Indian companies, whose data centres have grown, now require virtualisation technologies to access information from anywhere within these centres.

Cisco partners to help streamline and better manage data. With the Indian services market set to cross $60 billion by 2010, the market potential is huge, Mr Goel said.
