Cattle race in full swing near Palakkad in Kerala. It was conducted as part of the Onam celebrations. Animals used in such races are fostered and fed on a special diet and regime and are valued more than the ordinary ones. The 24-year-old Cattle Race Club of Kerala, with branches in neighbouring States, oversees the race. Set up in Palakkad, it now has branches in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
