Sun to sell generic protonix in US

Mumbai, Sept. 11 Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd is evaluating the launch options for its generic version of heart-burn medicine pantoprazole in the US market. The Mumbai-based drug company said this following the final approval it received from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to sell generic copies of Wyeth’s Protonix (pantoprazole) tablets. The generic pantoprazole tablets are equivalents of Wyeth’s Protonix ® delayed release tablets in two strengths: 20 mg (base) and 40 mg (base), a note from the company said. These strengths of Protonix have annual sales of approximately $2.3 billion in the US. Since it was among the first to file an application to sell generic pantoprazole in the US, Sun Pharma would also have 180 days of exclusive sales in the market, the company said.
