Natco Pharma Ltd has launched Lenalid, a generic version of Lenalidomide, for treatment of cancer. Lenalidomide is indicated for the treatment of Myelo Dysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a type of neoplasm of the blood, which results in abnormally low amount of erythrocytes (red blood cells) and may be accompanied by low amount of thrombocytes (platelets) as well as neutrophils. The drug is available in 5mg, 10mg, 15mg and 25mg capsules and comes in a 30 capsules bottle. "The price of the product works out to be 95 per cent lesser than the international brand and is priced at 5mg -Rs 6,000, 10mg - Rs 10,800, 15mg - Rs 14,500 and 25mg - Rs 22,000," a company release said. Lenalidomide therapy may offer transfusion independence within four to eight weeks, with the possibility of reversing cytogenetic abnormality as well, it added. - Our Bureau
