Railways Rlys freight earnings up 10% in Apr-August Our Bureau New Delhi, Sept 12 Indian Railways’ registered a ten per cent growth in freight earnings for the first five months this fiscal touching Rs 18,193.02 crore compared to the same period last fiscal. This growth rate is lower than the over 15 per cent year-on-year growth rate for freight earnings last year for the same period. The Railways has been witnessing relatively lesser growth in loading of goods including fertiliser and iron ore since April this year, according to official sources. Goods EarningsThe total goods earnings have gone up to Rs 18,193.02 crore during April-August from Rs 16,537.95 crore in the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 10.01 per cent, said a press release. However, for the April-August 2006, the revenue from goods traffic had gone up by over 15 per cent growth compared to that in April-August 2005. The total earnings during the period were Rs 27,116.79 crore approximately compared to Rs 24,598.42 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 10.24 per cent. Passenger earningsThe total passenger revenue earnings during first five months of the financial year 2007-08 were Rs 7,861.56 crore (Rs 7,093.45 crore), registering an increase of 10.83 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 748.30 crore during April-August (Rs 663.80 crore) showing an increase of 12.73 per cent. The total sundry earnings have gone up to Rs 313.91 crore during April-August (Rs 303.22 crore), registering an increase of 3.53 per cent. More Stories on : Railways | Performance
