New head for UNCCD panel

Hyderabad, Sept. 12

The Conference of Parties (COP) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has elected Dr William D. Dar, the Director-General of Icrisat, as the new Chair of its Committee for Science and Technology. Dr Dar was elected during a COP session held in Madrid, Spain, last week, an Icrisat (International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) press release said. The Committee for Science and Technology advises the UNCCD on all scientific issues relating to its mission on desertification, land degradation and drought.
