Clariant Chem offers VRS to Kolshet plant staff

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Sept. 13 Speciality chemicals company Clariant Chemicals India Ltd (CCIL) is offering the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) to 145 workers at its dyes and chemical plant at Kolshet, Maharashtra. This is a prelude to closing this facility at Kolshet, and shifting out the production of dyes and chemicals to another Clariant plant at Roha, Maharashtra, Mr Sunil K. Nayak, CCIL’s Chief Financial Officer, told Business Line.

The Kolshet plant is one of Clariant’s oldest plant, set up in 1958. The plant came into Clariant’s fold as part of the Sandoz legacy, Mr Nayak said. A total of 300 people work at Kolshet, he said, and added that other operations at Kolshet such as the master-batches production facility, product safety lab and analytical labs will continue.

Only one portion of the site, which is the dyes and chemicals factory will be shut down, he said. The company has six manufacturing sites across the country.

The VRS is intended to reduce costs in view of the staff competition faced by the company, Clariant said in a notice to the BSE.

Mr Nayak pointed out that production was being shifted to the Roha facility, which had idle capacity and could manufacture larger quantities. The VRS is open till September 30 for acceptance by the employees.
