Air connectivity

This refers to the report on the Central Government’s proposal to offer more sops to improve air connectivity.

The Government’s decision to offer incentives, such as exemption of night landing charges, to the regional airlines is really a welcome step.

This will definitely improve the flight services to many smaller towns that are badly in need of air services.

Further, there are new airlines, such as Air Dravida and Star Aviation, in the queue to take off as regional flights.

This is good news and it should be encouraged. With better connectivity, the smaller towns can compete with the bigger towns and cities in more areas, thus driving economic growth in the region.

The main purpose of giving incentives is that the airlines will provide better services to the passengers. So, the airlines have the responsibility of ensuring passenger-friendly and value-added services.

Also, the Government should keep tabs on their operations, particularly in-flight services and departure and arrival timings of the flights.
