‘Kochi will emerge as a tourism gateway’

Our Bureau

Kochi, Sept. 13 Kochi will emerge as the gateway of Indian tourism once the world-class Marina, planned adjacent to the Bolghatty Island, becomes a reality within the next two years, said Mr Cheriyan Philip, Chairman, Kerala State Tourism Development Corporation.

Speaking after the inauguration of the first anniversary celebrations of the Fort Kochi-based Greenix Ventures Pvt Ltd, he said the foundation stone of the Marina project is expected to be laid next month.

Vision

Greenix Ventures has been set up with a vision to promote Kerala tourism with a focus on the State’s traditions and cultural heritage. Greenix’s existing facility for performing arts at Fort Kochi and the picturesque waterfront township having a cultural legacy dating back several centuries is a major attraction for tourists round the year. “Tourists throng this centre for a sumptuous feast of cultural and art programmes performed live on stage by artistes,” Mr N.K. Mohammed Kutty, Managing Director of Greenix Ventures, said.

Unique village planned

Greenix Ventures is currently on a take-off stage with an array of projects in the pipeline. The projects include a unique ‘Greenix Village’ in Fort Kochi in true Kerala traditions with integrated facilities such as a modern theatre for performing arts, an audio visual theatre, an archaeological museum, an open-air Kalari square, budget accommodation for tourists and an art gallery.

A multi-crore ayurvedic medical tourism and cultural complex with onshore facilities as well as floating cottages centred on a cluster of three picturesque islands in Poothotta on the banks of the serene Vembanadu backwaters is yet another major project on the anvil.
