Show cause notice issued to Bharti

New Delhi, Sept. 13

The Department of Telecom has issued a show cause notice to Bharti Airtel for offering cellular services near the international border in Bihar Circle. As per Government rules, operators are not allowed to offer mobile services within 10 km of the international border. In Bharti’s case it was found out that areas situated near the Nepal border were being covered by the company. A penalty of Rs 50 crore may be imposed on the company for the violation. —
