New Delhi, Sept 13

The President, Ms Pratibha Patil, on Thursday gave away the ‘Outstanding Parliamentarian Award’ to the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, the Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, the Panchayati Raj Minister, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, Ms Sushma Swaraj.

The Vice-President, Mohd Hamid Ansari, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr Somnath Chatterjee, were also present on the occasion.

In his address at the function, which was held in the Central Hall of Parliament, Dr Manmohan Singh called upon the Parliamentarians, particularly the younger colleagues, to strive for the very high standards of debate and discussions that have been set by the outstanding Parliamentarians.
