Horticulture aid for Tirunelveli

Madurai, Sept. 14

Tirunelveli district has received Rs 11.23 crore under the National Horticulture Mission Programme for 2007-08. According to the District Collector Mr Prakash, Rs 2.13 crore would be allotted for establishing new mango, amla and banana orchards on 2,100 hectares, Rs 36.4 lakh for cultivation of rose and jasmine, chilli and aromatic plants and Rs 10.12 lakh for cashew cultivation. Further, assistance would be given for natural farming, vegetable cultivation, vermicompost ma king and keeping bee colonies. Farmers can also get assistance for renovating established mango and cashew farms. Interested farmers can contact the horticultural officers at Tenkasi, Sankarankoil and Radhapuram or the Office of the Assistant Director, Department of Horticulture, Palayamkottai, the sources added. —
