Voltas hopes to increase sales in western region

Pune, Sept. 14 Voltas Ltd today inaugurated its second exclusive showroom for air-conditioning, commercial refrigeration products and water cooling products.

Addressing presspersons, Mr Pradeep Bakshi, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, said the company has put in place plans to capture 22 per cent market share through sales of about one lakh units in the western region. The western region includes Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Last year, sales in this region were around 4.7 lakh units for air-conditioners, window and split.

Last year, the Pune market had seen sales of 12,000 units and the target for this year was 16,000 units. Mr Bakshi said the western region has around 23 exclusive showrooms and the company is targeting to set up 35 by the year-end. The exclusive showrooms contributed to about 25 per cent of the revenue.

He said Mumbai has eight showrooms and plans are on to add another five, while Pune would have one more. The other locations where showrooms are present are Kolhapur, Aurangabad and Nasik.

The company would also be adding more than 50 channel partners by the end of the year, making it a total of 827 regionally and enhance service franchisee from 115 to 140 this year. The total domestic air-conditioner market for 2006-07 was around 16 lakh and this year it is expected to cross 20 lakh. Voltas has a 16 per cent market share in this.
