Oilseeds & Edible Oil Industry & Economy - Exports & Imports Edible oil imports up in August Our Bureau Mumbai, Sept. 14 Edible oil imports increased 29 per cent, touching 4.69 lakh tonnes for August against 3.63 lakh tonnes during the same period last year, according to the Solvent Extractors Association. Out of the total edible oil imports, refined palm oil import was to the tune of 13,919 tonnes during the month (5,629 tonnes). On the other hand, refined soyabean oil imports declined considerably to 2,000 tonnes (9,200 tonnes). Duty benefitsThe palm group continue to have a major share in the total import basket due to duty benefits. Sunflower oil (crude) imports jumped to 17,840 tonnes for the month (2,999 tonnes) due to gradual reduction in import duty.
