More Indians enrolling with Australia universities

Bangalore, Sept. 17 Australia has witnessed a strong growth in the number of Indian student enrolments at its universities in 2006 and the first half of 2007.
Second only to China, India contributed 42,798 full-fee enrolments in Australian universities, demonstrating 60.9 per cent growth on YTD June 2006, higher than China’s growth on YTD June 2006 which stood at 13.8 per cent.
Indians now are the third largest migrant group in Australia after the British and the New Zealanders.
IDP Education Australia Ltd, owned and represented by 41 Australian universities, is currently organising an education interview programme in the country.
Mr Henry A.S. Ledlie, Director, IDP India, said there is increasing number of students opting for undergraduate programmes from India.
Under the new migration plans announced by the Australian Government, students who graduated from Australian institutions will now be able to apply for an 18-month temporary work visa before they get their PR (Permanent Residency), Mr Ledlie said.
