Exports & Imports Logistics - Infrastructure States - Andhra Pradesh AP hopes new airports will boost agri exports Our Bureau Hyderabad, Sept. 18 The Andhra Pradesh Government is pinning hopes on the upcoming airport at Shamshabad and the proposed international airport at Visakhapatnam to give a boost to its agricultural exports. Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, asked the officials to draw plans to increase exports of agricultural products from Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore, to make good use of the upcoming airports. Reviewing the activities of the marketing department here on Monday, he asked them to put in place efficient, transparent and accountable systems to ensure farmer-friendly market yards as against the trade-dominated ones. Following the recommendations of the Jayati Ghosh Committee (which was appointed by the State to suggest measures to provide succour to the farm sector), the State had decided to phase out commission agents, who ruled the trading activity at the market yards. “This will help the farmers and other agricultural producers in getting better returns,” a Government release said. The average annual turnover of trade transactions was put in the range of Rs 20,000-25,000 crore. More Stories on : Exports & Imports | Infrastructure | Andhra Pradesh
