Union Bank branch in Dharavi

Mumbai, Sept. 19

Union Bank of India opened its 2,262nd branch in Dharavi, Mumbai today. Through this branch, the bank will also help the local population in obtaining PAN cards, said a press release from the bank. This is one of the steps taken by Union Bank under financial inclusion, as the population at Dharavi consists of mostly migrants from States such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. On the opening day of the branch loans amounting to R s 12.75 lakh were disbursed to 12 self-help groups thereby helping 175 women beneficiaries. —
