IBS, Kolkata placement attracts global players

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Sept. 19 Raffles, a Singapore-based consultancy, and Spectrum Global, a fund administration outfit that caters to hedge funds, are among the international companies that have participated in ICFAI Business School (IBS), Kolkata’s placement process this year.

The IBS placement session of 2007, which featured 275 students, also drew a host of domestic corporates, including a few that operate in the financial services sector.

Besides, there were a number of consultancies and manufacturing companies.

Prof Santanu Ray, Director, said that IBS, Kolkata expects to wrap up the next series of placements by December-end. This is also likely to attract a diverse group of recruiters.

“In the past we have had recruiters come in from a variety of sectors, including banking and finance, retail and manufacturing. We wish to sustain the trend.”

IBS has initiated the admission process for the class of 2008, admit cards for which will be available online from November 20 onwards.

In 2006, the average compensation package was Rs 3.9 lakh; this has risen to Rs 4.5 lakh in 2007.

The highest offer was Rs 14 lakh (by Raffles).

ICICI Bank was among the more prominent recruiters last year; it took in 21 students.

The per capita recruitment is expected to be somewhat higher in the days ahead.

Mr Ray told newspersons that the school recently entered into an arrangement with HDFC Bank.

The two are expected to pursue a programme in relationship management.

On another front, it is set to tie up with a couple of US-based Universities, an initiative that will be a first of sorts for the business school.

Similar tie-ups have been forged earlier by IBS in Hyderabad.

Such agreements are aimed at exchanging students and members of faculty.

Jindal project

IBS may offer its consultancy services to the Jindal Group’s project at Salboni in West Bengal.

“We have already discussed the matter with the group,” Mr Ray said, adding that the mandate will be a prestigious one.

Consultancies and case studies are being seen as important factors by IBS.

The latter has created a pool of case studies in a number of functional areas in management.
