New Delhi, Sept. 20

The CII and the Indian Paints Association (IPA) are working towards setting a comprehensive standard for various categories of paints to be sold in India, including the standards on the lead ppm levels to be allowed in each product category. IPA is preparing the standards in line with the global standards; these would be submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forests, recommending standards for the quality of paints to be used in the household sector. Mr N.K. Bhatia, President of IPA, said that adopting these standards would take a little time as it would involve reformulation of paints and development of alternative sources of raw materials. –
