Mozambique officials visit Coir Board

Kochi, Sept. 20 A high level official delegation from Mozambique, headed by Mr Francisco Itai Meque, Governor of Inhambane, Government of Mozambique, visited the coir industry and Coir Research Centre of Coir Board at Kalavoor in Alappuzha and held discussions with Mr A.C. Jose, Chairman, Coir Board.

Apart from the Ambassador, the delegation included Mr Carlos Agostinho do Rosario, High Commissioner of Mozambique to India; Mr Antonio Fernando Mandlate, Administrator of Massinga District, Government of Inhambane; Mr Amerio Tomas Dique De Jenga, Provincial Director of Industry and Commerce, Government of Inhambane; Mr Pedro Joao Baptista, Provincial Director of Education and Culture, Government of Inhambane; and Mr Pedro Daniel Dzucule, Chief of Department of Agriculture, Government of Inhambane.

Briefing

The delegation attended a meeting at CCRI, Kalavoor where various matters connected with the development of coir industry in Mozambique were discussed at length. A presentation depicting various facets of the coir industry was made before the delegation. Mr Jose explained the activities undertaken by the Board for the development of coir industry.

The delegation also visited coir mats-making unit and coir spinning units at Cherthala.

The delegation was shown how the coir industry converts waste into wealth and the presentation highlighted the tremendous potential for setting up of coir-based industry in places where coconut husk is available.

The team members evinced keen interest in developing the coir industry in their country. They appealed to the Government of India and the Coir Board to extend maximum possible technical support.
