Bangalore, Sept. 20 One of the world’s costliest cars, Daimler Chrysler’s Maybach has not found enough buyers in India.

Carrying a price tag of over Rs 5 crore and launched in early 2004, its owners have been able to sell only about six of these cars in India, which can be customised to suit the fancies of the customers. “I don’t want to personally push them (sales) hard as I believe that they are only for the select few,” Daimler Chrysler’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Wilfried Aulbur, told Business Line.

Dr Aulbur said there are also no plans to source parts of the car from India. “They are customised to the specifications of the customer and they are fully built in Germany,” he said. Each customer is requested to give specifications once he orders Maybach.

At its production headquarters at Sindelfingen in Germany, customers can pick and choose over 2 million ways of equipping their luxury car. Dr Aulbur said Daimler Chrysler will spend about €50 million for its new plant in Pune, which will become operational in 2009.
