Gurumurthy Coimbatore, Sept. 20 Given the growing international cargo to and from Coimbatore, Maersk Line, the international ocean liner shipping company of A P Moller-Maersk Group, is re-starting its direct operation out of the city from this month. The group’s Indian arm, Maersk India Pvt Ltd is putting up its Coimbatore office, a 4,000-sq ft space rented out on the arterial Tiruchi Road, which is expected to be formally commissioned on September 24, the local cargo industry/shipping agencies sources said. Franchise OperationMaersk Line in Coimbatore has hitherto been represented by Aspinwall and company’s shipping agency division. With Maersk deciding to have its own operation, Aspinwall would now be allowed the franchise operation for Safmarine, another international liner company belonging to the A P Moller-Maersk, the sources added. With a view to consolidating its trade from this industrial region, Maersk India is merging its company-owned business unit—presently functioning at the hosiery exporting town of Tirupur—with its new Coimbatore outfit.
