Messe Munchen launches Indian subsidiary

M. Somasekhar

Hyderabad, Sept. 19 Messe Munchen International (MMI), one of the world’s largest trade-fair companies organising international exhibitions and fairs in niche areas, has launched its Indian subsidiary with an office in Mumbai. The Munich-based company, which got the licence to operate recently will have about 10 employees to begin with, according to Mr Manmeet Sabarwal, Managing Director of India operations.

MMI has plans to open its offices in New Delhi and Bangalore in the near future. India is a major destination for the company, which has presence in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China, said Mr Kurt Schraudy, Managing Director of IMAG, a group company.

In Hyderabad to pitch for the upcoming Analytica Anacon India 2007, Mr Schraudy told Business Line that though the presence of Indian companies in the large shows organised by MMI in Munich was small currently, the potential was huge owing to the high GDP growth rate.

MMI’s India operations will focus on construction, real estate, automotive, textile and environment in the initial phase.

It will co-ordinate the DrinkTec-2007 (a beverages show), scheduled to be held in November in Mumbai, said Mr Sabarwal.
