‘HR is a critical enabler of change in mindset’

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Sept. 21 “It is the change in the mindset which can propel India to growth, and human resources (HR) is a critical enabler of this change,” said Dr J. J. Irani, Past President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Director, Tata Sons Ltd. He was delivering the keynote address at the CII’s seventh HRM summit on Friday.

He stressed on the importance of having a well-defined value system, aligning people and processes, and developing a strong and credible leadership to provide effective directions to people.

“There has been a paradigm shift in the levels that we have been seeing HR in the past, now HR needs to be seen as a partner in the organisation strategy building process,” Dr Irani added.

Role of the leader

Dwelling on the role of the leader, Dr Irani highlighted credibility as the key quality. “Leaders don’t alone build the organisations, it is the multitude of the people working at the backend which brings success to the organisation. They look up to their leader as the role model, hence the leaders are expected to practice what they preach and then build a thriving organisation,” Dr Irani said.
