ICICI Pru Life in pact with IIRM to hone staff skills

Hyderabad, Sept. 21 In view of the acute shortage for skilled human resources, ICICI Prudential Life has joined hands with Institute of Insurance and Risk Management to offer an executive programme.

This is part of the company’s efforts to create specialised workforce in association with business schools.

The one-year course seeks to train graduates with less than one year experience in specialties such as underwriting and actuaries.

“Our work force has gone up to 27,000 from 5,100 in 2005. What we find is there is acute shortage for manpower for carrying out special tasks. Of them, 10,000 were recruited in the March-August period,” Mr N. S. Kannan, Executive Director, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance said.

The demand for skilled workforce was commensurate with the growth in the insurance sector. “Managing scale and specialisation are the two biggest challenges,” he said.

In a bid to address this problem, the insurance company, which had underwritten 50 lakh policies backed by a network of 700 offices, had started PG Programme in Management and Insurance (PGMI) in association with 14 business schools. Over 1,000 students had been enrolled for this programme.

Talking on the new course, Mr Kannan said the candidates would take a written test, which would be followed by group discussion and interview. After successful completion, the insurance company would absorb them.

Mr Vepa Kamesam, Managing Director of IIRM, said the institute was open to offeringt tailor-made courses to suit the requirements of insurance companies.
