Amadasoft, IIT Madras in pact for research

Amadasoft (India) Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Japan-based Amada Group that is in the business of manufacturing a range of sheet metal working machinery, has signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT Madras to commence joint research activity.

According to a press release, the company will occupy about 20,000 sq. ft. at the upcoming IIT Research Park to carry out research that includes developing algorithms relevant to areas of sheet metal cutting, bending and overall scheduling in a sheet metal factory.

About half a dozen faculty from IIT Madras would get to be part of this research and Amadasoft would also sponsor students to undertake projects at the research facility.

About Rs 10 crore would be invested to start operations in the facility, company officials said. This includes space occupation cost of about Rs 3 crore and machinery and installation costs of about Rs 6 crore.

The board governing the IIT research park is expected to allot space to companies starting June 2008. Amadasoft expects to commence its operations by end of 2008.
