Spurt in Kochi tea prices

A good general demand has resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the total quantity of 10.6 lakh kg on offer in the dust category, best CTC’s remained steady around last levels to sometimes irregular. Good liquoring medium CTC’s steady to dearer and plainer CTC’s were steady. Orthodox highgrown was lower and medium orthodox was steady. Blenders and loose tea traders lent good support on good liquoring tea. There was some export enquiry on medium teas at lower levels.

CTCs

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 67 and Rs 80, medium CTC realised Rs 52-62 and below medium were quoted at Rs 30-36. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices at Rs 70-100, while medium BOPD were quoted Rs 40-45. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 30-32.

Leaf sale

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 2.63 lakh kg. Highgrown high-priced whole leaf grades were lower. Highgrown brokens steady to sometimes dearer. Fannings barely steady and medium broken steady. Whole leaf grades were easier. Highpriced CTC’s were easier by Rs 1-2. Leaf grades also witnessed a good export enquiry generally.

Nilgiri

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 85 and Rs 99, medium orthodox realised Rs 45-73 and plain orthodox were quoted Rs 40-41. Best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 49-60, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 40-46.

In the dust category, Kodanad Cl BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 100 followed by Monica SFD by Rs 82. In the leaf varieties, Havukal FOP realised the best prices of Rs 147 followed by Chamraj FOP by Rs 121.
