Shipping Award for Maersk at CCTL Chennai port’s container terminal, run by Chennai Container Terminal Ltd (CCTL), is poised to achieve a throughput of one million TEUs in 2007, according to informed sources. Between 2002 and 2006, the throughput jumped from 400,000 TEUs to 830,000 TEUs. For the third time in a row, Maersk Line bagged the Top Shipping Line of the Year award for providing maximum cargo support to CCTL. Maersk Line launched MECL2 service in March this year, adding significantly to the volume. Meanwhile, AP Moller Maersk Group has announced several new appointments to its management team for the Maersk’s container business in Southeast Asia. Henrik Jensen, who was head of Maersk Line in South-East Asia for the past four years, has been promoted to the position of senior director to look after seven countries in the region. He will report to Jesper Praestensgaard, who has been appointed new chief executive for Maersk in Southeast Asia. Thomas Lindy Sorensen will succeed Mr Jensen as the new head of Maersk Line in South-East Asia. Mr Sorensen brings with him the experience of working in India earlier.
