Engineering States - Maharashtra 3-day NACE meet on corrosion from Wednesday Our Bureau Mumbai, Sept 23 The Indian chapter of NACE International, a global forum of over 16,000 engineers, is organising a three-day conference called CORCON 2007 in Mumbai from September 26. Dr R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor, is the patron-in-chief for the conference. The focus will be on "the cost of corrosion to the nation," with particular emphasis on sectors such as manufacturing, petroleum, chemical and fertiliser, oil and gas, transport, power, highway and Railways, ports and harbours and bridges and flyovers. The President of NACE International, Mr Lois Vincent, said that India's corrosion loss has been estimated at Rs 80,000 crore annually, which could be reduced by 25 per cent with proper management. The meet will deliberate on new developments in paint and coating, cathodic protection, composite materials, corrosion in concrete structures and assessment and monitoring of corrosions. Hundreds of professionals, scientists, engineers, academicians and R&D students from India and abroad will attend the meet with the sole objective of finding ways and means of minimise losses due to corrosion. The event is being organised in association with CECRI Karaikudi, IIT Mumbai, UYCT Mumbai, CSIR New Delhi and PSU giants such as ONGC, GAIL, IOC, HPCL, BPCL and Nuclear Power Corporation, along with the Union Ministry of Science and Technology, IGCAR Kalpakkam and the Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways.More Stories on : Engineering | Events | Maharashtra
