The Hindu Opportunities Fair on Sept 29, 30

Our Bureau

Chennai, Sept. 24 The 19th edition of The Hindu Opportunities Fair will be held on September 29 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Chennai Trade Centre.

Over 35 companies representing engineering, IT, ITES and BPO industries will participate.

From being an IT, ITES dominated event in the past, the fair will see participation from engineering services and sales-based companies such as TeamLease Services and Larsen and Toubro, said Mr Solomon Prabakar, Deputy General Manager–Advertising-Appointments, The Hindu.

Registration procedure

Graduates and postgraduates, including IT professionals with up to 10 years experience, can participate by registering online at www.thehindu.com or www.tmifirst.com/hf6/index.aspx.

Once registration is complete, candidates must take a printout of their registration to walk into the fair to meet prospective employers.

It is advisable to carry at least 15 printouts of one’s resume to the fair.

Most companies would go through a process of short listing candidates, administering tests and conducting interviews, others would recruit candidates at the fair and offer appointment letters at a later stage.

Earlier this year, eight such fairs were conducted in Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchi, Hyderabad, Madurai, Bangalore and Kochi.

Together the fairs saw over 3.75 lakh candidates seeking jobs with participating companies and about 8,000 offers were made.

Sponsors, job offers

The Chennai fair is sponsored by Cognizant Technology Solutions, Patni Computers, Covansys and Sutherland.

Partners include Reliance Communication, Radio One FM 94.3 and TMI First.

Last year, about 6,000 jobs offers were handed out in Chennai.
