Chennai, Sept. 26 Socomec-Numeric UPS Pvt Ltd, an equal joint venture between Numeric Power Systems Ltd and Socomec SA, is all set to launch UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system with ‘fly-wheel’ technology.

The new technology will replace the battery requirement in the system.

Longer life

Announcing this at a press conference here, Mr Michael Carater, CEO, Socomec SA, said though the UPS with fly-wheel technology is three times more expensive, life of the system is much longer than the conventional ones.

With lead prices going up all the time, replacing batteries once in every three or four years is turning out to be expensive, whereas the fly-wheel technology does not require a battery at all. In addition, it also gives a high power density and one single unit can provide up to 19 kW.

While Numeric Power Systems Ltd is a major player in the single phase UPS market, Socomec-Numeric is present in the III-phase segment.

Socomec-Numeric, in the last one year, has installed 1,000 units of 3-phase UPS ranging from 8KVA to 800 KVA in the country, and registered a turnover of around Rs 67.3 crore, thus garnering around 15.6 per cent of the market.

According to Mr Chellappan, the 3-phase segment (through Socomec-Numeric joint venture) contributes 25 per cent of the overall revenues of Numeric Power Systems Ltd.
